Hard Anodising

Harder film for a harsher environment

Hard anodising produces darker coatings than the normal ‘decorative’ process, but the exact shade depends upon coating thickness and anodising conditions which we are able to control, as well as alloy, thermal history, degree of hot or cold work, over which we have no control. We are unable colour match except between components from the same batch of material.

Surface coatings are thicker than decorative anodising and are achievable up to 75µm thick for some alloys; however optimum hardness is usually achieved with a film thickness of approximately 40µm (half penetration and half build up). Hard anodising also provides a high degree of electrical insulation.

Colouring may be carried out by dyeing after Hard anodising, but the colours obtained will be diluted by the darker appearance of the Hard anodic coating.
